Invented by a Frenchman, M. de Belloy, this is still a popular method. The ground coffee is poured into a paper filter held in the upper section and, when hot water is poured over the ground coffee, it filters into a pot below.
Electric filter machines use the correct amount of water at just the right temperature to get the best flavour from the beans, however some people feel that the paper filter removes too much of the sediment of the coffee and reduces flavour, also that the paper filter itself can alter flavour. Bleach free filter paper has been developed to solve this problem.
You need a fine grind for a good filter coffee and a medium to high roast. All our beans for our filter coffees are single origin 100% arabica beans.
