Chinese writings mentioned peaches as long ago as the tenth century BC and were said to be the favoured fruit of emperors. With yellow or whitish flesh and a skin that is either velvety (peaches) or smooth (nectarines) the white fleshed variety are very sweet with little acidity whilst the yellow fleshed peaches have more acidity combined with sweetness but this can vary.
